A surprise was a tight yellow daisy type I bought as an alpine in spring. Its a mat like plant and spreading fast. The gem this year though was my lewisa, a vivid, what I call cerise. Apparently I need to upload it to an album before posting here. Lewisa ( photo / image / picture from kate's Garden )
Kate ~ I was introduced to Lewisa this last spring. I love them. Mine bloomed four times during the summer and is currently blooming. Great choice! My is a bright pink too, but not as bright and solid as yours. WOW!
I love Marge's Zinnia! JewelI agree on Lewisa being one of the best performers this year..twice it flowered and my other just once but late is still has one flower stalk lol I got mine from our local supermarket as babies for something like £1.50. Lost an adult after the winter the crown went all slushy..yak! I hav'nt seen any more since but I will buy more in spring, I want a border full to the brim of Leweisas lol
Wow, a tale about Lewisa plants, Its also Montana's state flower. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m ... _82885081/
Just wanted to correct the spelling of this plant, it is Lewisia....in case anyone else wants to look it up. Lewisia cotyledon (Siskiyou lewisia)
This one puts out flowers all summer Astrophytum myriostigma ( photo / image / picture from Christer Johansson's Garden )
In garden: An ordinary blue petunia, it was bloomed all summer and i got a new digitalcamera that i had to test it... Houseplant: Wizard's Shadowed Lady(S. Jones)White wasp blooms edged in blue. Medium green bustled foliage. (African violet)
Freja, that is a nice camera! The blue in that petunia is so vivid. Gorgeous. The detail is amazing. I see you have such a green thumb. What is your secret for growing African violets so successfully?
Well, actually, i don't do much...they just grow I have like 60 of them in my 2 kichen windows (one to the east and one to the south), and it seems like that is the right place for them to grow and bloom. And also, the 300-350 smaller ones that i have (they have not bloomed yet), i have them in set of shelves with flourescent lamps. I have made own hybrids from plants i have, (sow seeds from them just 6 weeks ago) but they are soo tiny yet. Hopefully next year i can show some pics of them when they start to bloom.
