Me and my kids came across a Luna moth recently while we were looking for tracks one evening. Ever since then we have become amateur entomologists.

I had come across a article from the Ad Council at work(the marketing company I work for is doing a campaign for them)that said kids spend about 50% less time outdoors than they did 20 years ago.

The Forest service has a website as well as a series of PSAs going on designed to get people outdoors with their kids doing activities called "Where the Other You Lives".

No children here they are all grown up with familys of their own but I do notice the absence of children playing outside. When we lived in the country our grandchildren loved to come and explore. Grandpa even made little bug boxes for them to keep bugs and toads in while they visited for the day. Of course we always let them go but they had a great time capturing them. Don't forget about collecting rocks or pretty stones...I even still have a few sitting around..Good Luck in keeping your children interested in the outdoors...it is well worth your effort and the togetherness is great for you and the children.

Thanks for the kind post Sherry! Collecting rocks is something I love to do as well, though I have to admit it's been some time since I fished to the bottom of the local pond to find a smooth specimen.

That's definitely something I need to do with the kids soon:)

Mine are grown up too. We work on our nature site every day and the collections of photos in every aspect of nature lets everyone know just how much there is out there. Have a browse click The Nature Inn
