The Geiranger Fjord. I'm sorry it's not much in autumn. It looks better in summer, but anyway. On our way there we had to take the ferry: View along the road: The Geiranger fjord: See those buildings in there? That's where we're going: View from Geiranger: Looking up: View from the spa windows: People used to live and farm up there: View from above Geiranger: What to do when you need somewhere flat to put a church: See that winding road? It's called "Eagle's Bends" and that's the way we're going: The road is scary in places: Some snow: Through a very long valley: Mountains, of course: A pretty little out building: And we're ready to take the ferry across to the "right" side of the fjord. Way to the right is where the best strawberries in this area are grown. But not now. *sigh* I have to wait 'till June:
OMG, it really isn't fair that you got all that gorgeous scenery and I got.....I can't think of what I got but I know it isn't anywhere near as pretty as that. I don't know which scene is my favorite, mountains, lakes, mountains, valleys, mountains, winding road up the mountain, mountains.
That is the most amazing scenery, I love it, but I am not so sure I would like that road right on the cliff edge, your a brave person! Your photos are great as well. reminds me a little of a place in Scotland called Knoydart I visited you can only get there by boat there were no roads and was a Scottish sea loch
I can well see why it's your favorite fjord Droopy. What magnificent scenery. How I'd love to experience those views for myself. Love the zig-zag road - you'd have to be on your toes to drive along there. Do take photographs for us when you visit in June won't you?
great scenery. Such pretty snow capped mountains. That winding road-I think I'd be scared. I can underdtand why its your favorite.
Well Droopy, I don't know what to say...this series of Geiranger Fjord really is spectacular, to say the least. I think that these are some of the most lovely fotos that you have shown on us of your country. You chose such good places to take fotos from too. Do people still and farm up there in the area that you folks went to?
Gosh that is an great post Droopy. I really like looking at the scenery. It is so different from anything here or that I've seen before. It is amazing to think that this is part of your familiar territory. Very very exciting post, I think.
Thanks for liking the place. Geiranger is at the end of the fjord outside my window, and it's a popular place for cruise ships in summer. We get all the big ones passing here: Queen Mary, Queen Elisabeth, Sovereign of the Seas and what not. Yes, people still farm a lot in that area, but just not at the steepest places. And from the strawberry area I can drive an even scarier road called the Troll Path and go to the steep mountain side called Troll Wall. I have shown that on here several times. Maybe next year I'll get around to showing the Troll Path too. The road looks horrifying but the tourist coaches run up and down there all summer so it's not as bad as it may seem.
Yeah right! That was a joke right :-| That's amazing scenery. Norway is working its way onto my visit list with every passing day.
Haha, Frank, no joke. It does look a lot better in summer. There's sun down there and the mountain sides are all green and grey, still with white on top of the tallest peaks. You're very welcome to visit. Since it's only a couple of hours from here i sincerely hope you'd be able to pop in and say HI to us.
You're welcome, Debbie. I've heard that New Zealand looks a lot like Norway, and think so from photos and films I've seen too. I'd love to see your landscape also.
um....I've never been to New Zealand. I'm an Aussie! Busselton is right across the other side of the country from Sydney, which is the closest city to New Zealand. I'll try to post some photo's of my part of the world.
