This is looking from the back of my house This is looking from behind my veg garden. This is where I want to put my secret garden although I dont know what to do with it. I kinda would like to make a map of it and make it into a gardew stew project. With 2 acres I have the room for the gardenstew..
Ooh a lot of potential there Jim. Have you had any ideas? Hopefully we can help you come up with something. Maybe keeping a blog about it would be the best thing to do. This way you can keep all of your info about it in one place which is easy for everyone to read through. Thanks for poting these photos Jim
No i really dont have an idea yet I,m really new to the large scale gardening. I have started a small 10 X 15 area this year and right now it just looks like a hodge-podge of plants. The last owner of the house did nothing in the yard for the 5 years they had it. But the owners prior to them I have heard had the place looking the best in the area. So Im finding plants poping up here and there as I try and control the overgrown weeds.
Very nice place. We have 2 acres, but it is in pretty bad shape, the people who cleared it left it rutted up and then we had it clear cut of the pine and they further messed it up. We are slowly getting it back in shape. I hope one day it looks as good as yours.
It's lovely Jim, sort of takes my breath away. I don't know how many acres this is, but my lot is 100ft. wide and 660ft. deep. The back part is wild and I mow a walking path through and let the weeds grow up so the butterflies and other pretty insects can feast on the wild flowers back there. The middle is woods and I have a small shade or woodland garden. The rest of the property up around the house I have planted in ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials, collections of daylilies and roses. I have two ponds in the back and an Asian garden on my west side. My east side is shaded by one huge tree and this is where all of my bird feeders hang and I still have more flowers here too. LOL It took me 15yrs. to build all of my gardens. Now I'm in my early 50's and my husband is 62 and believe it or not we have taken up kayaking and mountain biking in the summer plus we love camping. Suddenly, I don't want all of the work anymore. I have been downsizing slowly and moving things together more, getting rid of all the duplicates around. I have planted 4 large flower borders back to grass, but with shrub borders still in place so it looks nice. Hopefully this will help you come up with some ideas on what to do with so much area but be careful on how much you plant....hehehe....somebody has to take care of it. I pruned over 100 shrubs a couple of weeks ago and it's just not as much fun as it used to be. When my husband retires he sais he wants to learn how to garden with me so I'm looking forward to that, that means I'll only have to trim 50 some shrubs and he can do the other half. I can't wait to see what projects you start. Please keep posting with updates on your progress.
