Hi, I'm new here and living now in the High Desert where temps drop at lowest to 30 degrees but the summers get up to 120 in the summers. Winds get up to 25-30 mph.

Where I live, I can't build a permanent greenhouse. What types of fruits or veggies would grow well out here? I have no clue.

I'm learning more about blue berries and such but I worry about the heat.

Any advice would be amazing! :?: :?:

Have you found nurseries or garden centers in your area? I would wander thru them to see what grows in your area and pick their brains about different varieties that might grow with some extra care.

I did find this site with a list of plants for the California high desert that might be helpful.

    Edited to add....
I just read your blog entry and learned that there are no nurseries in your area, that's too bad.

I haven't been able to find any nurseries. All I have is Lowes and Home Depot. Unfortunately, the personnel they place in their garden departments have no clue about gardening and it seems to be just high school jobs.

I will check out the website. Thanks!

Ditto with what Toni said. Try this site http://www.fourdir.com/gardens.htm It did have a list of nurseries that might be on online jumping off point. The high desert is a huge area with each region having some specific challenges.

    Happy gardening
