The hard freeze(s) we had this winter did some damage to my bamboo. They were all brown and yucky looking. Plus they were getting too tall (they are near a power line). So I cut them down. I kept a few stalks to use as stakes but burned the rest. I felt bad about doing that because I know there's got to be some clever, crafty use for them.
Next time I need to trim them back or down... I'd love to have a project for them. Any ideas?

You could make a hat, a brooch or a pterodactyl.
Didn't see that movie? I am feeling silly this morning

Using the thin ones for plant stakes and roped together to make a trellis or teepee for vines are the only things I can think of.

I couldn't grow bamboo because it might take over the whole neighborhood, but if I had some, I would definitely use it for trellis(s) and maybe even some decorative fences for the garden.
    That would be cool! :D

I used them for trellis, supports, markers and now self improvised staples to keep the newspaper in place for my new and first newspaper covered bed. Whatever extra I had I will chopped them up and had them composted in the compost heap. :)

Maybe you can make a small table out of it?

I have also seen them as curtain rods.

There is a local garden where I live where the gardener has made a fence out of long bamboo lengths. It looks very nice. Alternatively you could make a wall trellis out of the pieces if you can find an attractive method of binding the cross bars together. It could look really pretty with a clematis growing up it.

Well... I just couldn't stand the bamboo just laying around. Decided to try to make a trellis. The lashing wasn't as consistent and pretty as I hoped for... but it's tied together well! Like a friend says... "If you can't tie a good knot.. tie alot!"

Now... where to put it and what to choose to climb all over it to cover up my messing lashing!
    :-D

Now I feel really bad that I burned so much more of it earlier this year!
But... there's another bunch that could use some trimming so they'll grow back even stronger...
Hmmm.... maybe I should get my brothers chain saw and help them out? :-o

That looks great. I really like it. It looks nice and sturdy.

That saying about knots is a good one too. Funny.

Your trellis turned out very well Cherylad! How about making a garden Obelisk, or maybe a chair?

I'll have to find a special plant to grow over it.
(Just another excuse to go to the nursery!)
And yes... it's pretty sturdy. Afterall... I did use a TON of twine! :D
And an Obelix is a good idea... just might have to look into that!

Looks great to me. I weave the thinner ones in and out of upright thicker ones which I have staked in the ground to make mini fences or hurdles to keep floopy plants off the lawn. I am very keen on that trellis though - mine needs a bit of attention, so maybe I will have a go.
