I have had lots of buds & blooms on my hellebores but they never opened or froze because of the cold. Here is one I took in the late afternoon. I am not sure what variety this is. I tried to identify it but there are so many. Found this wonderful website on them after reading an article in Southern Living. Here is the link:

I love the color on the petals. I have always thought it would be fun to grow one. Any I have seen are very expensive.

Oh, Gail... how lovely. I will be on the lookout for a hellebore when I start thinking flowers.

Just beautiful. :-D Sadly mine are doing absolutely nothing at the moment. I miss them as they are usually in flower at this time of year. I do hope they haven't been killed off by the severe cold we've had this winter. :(

That's a nice-looking Helleborus, Gail. I like the way the light falls on it.

Thanks everyone. Eileen, be patient...they are very hardy, mine have usually bloomed earlier that this but a few days of sunshine & warmer temps have allowed them to bloom.

So pretty! I like the colors. I need to get outside and look around. The hellebores were just beginning to unfold nicely.

Lovely hellebore! :D I've got one that looks a bit like yours, but at the moment mine are under something like 60 cm / 2 feet of hard-packed snow. :(

    Hellebore

:-| I have one hellebore by my back door in a garden that gets morning sun and by noon is shade. I planted it in 2005 and it never showed even a bit of green for 3 seasons. I thought I had lost it. Then in 2008 early spring it came up with some green but no flower. Last year it got very large with no flower and now this spring I have 2 flowers as of late March. I live in zone 5 so this could be the reason. Plants seem to do their own thing no matter how attentive we are. I planted an Easter lily once and forgot about it, in this same backdoor garden. Three seasons later it appeared and bloomed. Then I never saw it again.

I adore them! I have loads around the garden, but never a flower. However, mine are all grown from seeds, so fingers crossed, maybe next year I can show off a bloom or 2.

Thanks for the comments. When they start from seed it takes 3 years to bloom. :-?
