can anyone identify this tree or shrub??

    i just moved in to a new house in oxford and this tree or shrub was already here and was wondering if anyone knows what it is and how i look after it?? its over 6 feet tall and all winter has had big hairy buds which are now coming out in big pink flowers

    Is that some kind of Magnolia I wonder? I've never seen a double one though...

    I agree on the Magnolia, but again, no idea on variety, and even googling it didn't help! Palustrus is pretty good with id's also, maybe he will wander along and help.

    I am sooooooooo jealous!!! I'd love to have a magnolia, any type!! Have many other interesting things popped up in your new yard?

    i do have loads and loads of different purple flowers which i think is heather and lots of other flowers which im not sure of at all i will post some more pics on at some point

    I think that's probably a Magnolia if there's such a thing as a double one, too.

    I've never seen a double magnolia before - it's beautiful. I have a white and a dark red one but would give one like yours garden space here any time. :-D
