    hey guys,

just got back after 2 weeks holiday and my toms have gone crazy on me.

currently got big beef plants at 6ft + :)

I have tried cages, and top down cables, but the weight of the plants is amazing.

i still need to go in and tidy out the offshoots which have grown whilst i was away.

but just wanted other peoples advice on tomato control

Try what I did this year. I used upright stakes that are about 5 ft tall, and then tied a lateral stake between them. As the vines grew I tied them to the supports similar to the way grapes are tied at vineyards. The outside vines if tied up will support the inside vines and the rest is tied along the top.

that would be great if you can 123henry

I've seen pvc designs before and like the idea.

might have to paint them green so the missus doesn't get mad .

Danjensen, we use the cages, but we drive a steel rod of about 5 foot lengths, down into the ground, interlacing it between the wire rings of the cage. It cannot fall over. When branches grow outside the cage, I tie them to one of the rings or to the rod.
