Hi! New to the site and will probably be posting alot of questions. Just moved, and the front and backyard used to belong to a phenomenal gardener. Unfortunately, the previous owners were elderly and sick and were not able to keep up with their abundance of flowers, trees, shrubs, you name it, and so much variety. Still in the process of walking around and trying to identify everything. Yes, it is that dire. Some are in real bad shape and some are fine but just need a bit of care. I really want to keep their dignity and integrity and hope to bring them back to what they used to be. Some need different levels of care. So when I post its out of dire necessity! LOL! Hi Shrinking Violet Welcome to Gardenstew from southern Ontario! Maybe it would help to post some photo's in the Plant ID forum. Sounds like a wonderful yard. Sometimes it's more fun restoring old gardens
Welcome to GardenStew Violet from West Lothian in Scotland. We'll be happy to try and help you with anything in your new garden that you're unsure of. If you need ID's could you possibly provide us with photographs? Seeing the plant in question makes naming it so much easier. I'll look forward to getting to know you.
Thanks so much Netty and Eileen! Still have cameras and stuff in boxes but I love the set up of this website and how you can submit photos and such for help or to enjoy pics of flowers so I will definitely post some pics of the garden. Never uploaded photos or posted online so I have to figure that out too. The gardens were abandoned and grass uncut for long periods of time so we are talking serious bug issues, weeds several feet tall that overtook a vegetable/herb garden, plants strangling other plants, spider webs and damage to rose bushes, leaves with insect holes, mold, moss, and one plant with white powdery, I guess mildew, and that's not even the half of it. So far I posted in the shrubs, roses, etc, thread about a rogue trumpet vine. I know general gardening stuff so what I took on with this yard is beyond what I have learned here and there.
Welcome to the Stew from the north-western coast of Norway! I'm so looking forward to sharing your project, and I must say it both sounds exciting and like a lot of work. But then, what type of gardening istn't?
Thanks! I am trying so hard with the limited knowledge I have and I was told the owners loved their gardens so much that I really want to do the best I can.
How lucky to have inherited an established garden. Can wait for the sharing. Keep up posted and don't forget the before photos. It is so fun to compare with the later ones. Welcome to the Stew.
Thanks! Made another discovery yesterday. This one area is like a jungle, so much going on, and these beautiful light purple and white striped flowers are now climbing partially up a tree, they were not opened the last time I was back there. I guess morning glories?
