Hi all, I'm a photographer and took this butterfly picture but unfortunately I have no idea what kind it is. Can anyone help me with this? I'm submitting it to a contest tomorrow and would like to provide some background info on the species. Thanks! You don't say where you took the photo, which sometimes help to ID them. Did you happen to take this one somewhere in Central or South America or a Butterfly house locally? This one is commonly found in the tropics....Central and South America. It appears to be a Postman Butterfly Heliconius melpomene http://tolweb.org/Heliconius_melpomene/72252 Their host plant is the Passion Flower Vine
Thanks for help! I took this photo in the butterfly garden at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
