I work with many clients who bring me magazine photos before I begin designing their space. Where do you get your inspiration from?
I tend to comb the internet via Twitter or Blog Search. There are so many great design blogs out there it's easy to find great ideas.
I don't think you really need magazines so much when the internet has endless ideas. I'd only resort to a magazine for the convienience of being able to carry it around - but with a printer there isn't any real need to do that either!
I search a lot of blogs on interior design. moderator's note: removed website link, see point 1.1 of usage rules
I take my inspiration from design magazines, design shows on tv, design tradeshows and seminars, friend's homes.
I start with a piece of wall art that I really love and use it as the jumping off point. The colors, feel, theme, can all be built from there and since it all works in the picture, you know it will work in the room. I also look at decorated model homes in new communities to see what I like and don't like. Unlike flat design images on the web or internet, looking at a fully designed room and house in person gives you a much clearer picture of what works and why it works.
You can register and start idea galleries for each room. There are many spaces from architects, home builders and designers Nationwide. Search by room, style, colors, and features. Angela Todd
I get my inspiration from the room itself and the people that are going to stay in there. So far my experience is for my own home for my family.
Honestly, I get ideas from home and garden television shows and magazines too. If the client wants his furniture custom-made, I get ideas from him by just brainstorming what a furniture looks like according to the client's preference.
