I'm new here, in search of some help for my room, but I thought I'd share the sunshines of my life with you all! They make me giggle and laugh everyday, might as well share some smiles. Ahh, for starters I will share... them. Please excuse me, I have 11 (10 are adopted, I am not a breeder, which is what most people think when I share the dreadful number of 11, but most of them are rescues who... NEEDED a home), so I will share them in pieces, haha. First off, is my Precious, who is my only surviving pig that I got from a pet store. She really is a wonderful girl. She's got the spunkiest attitude and certainly lives up to her name in my eyes... ask her cagemates and you may get a different story! This is their salad dish... which became a hot spot when the summer heat got to them. After we got Precious is April 2007, we decided she needed a friend. Unfortunately, we went to a pet store, which I regret but I would never return Precious or Goofball. THIS is Goofball. That Goofball also lived her name fully and brought a smile to my face every day and she would always lick the tears from my face when I was feeling down about anything. She was *such* a special girl. I sadly lost her July 23, 2010 to something my vet could not figure out. I am thinking now it was a tumor. I feel terrible everytime I say it, but Goofball was my favorite. Goofball surely did not leave for nothin', after her passing, Precious and I have bonded so much. I feel as if Precious is so close to me. I haven't been so close to Precious because it was complicated the way I 'inherited' her. She used to be a family members until I put my foot down on the care she was given and took her myself. Precious and I grieved together, and I hope we have many, many years to come. I like to believe she lived a short, but fulfilled life with me. Stay tuned for the next group!
I work for a Vet, and as you say pet store pigs can be a sad sight. Many are sick before they are ever sold. The buyers are unaware of this. So wonderful of you to rescue them and give them a good home no matter how short a time they are with you. I rescue Little dogs! I have 3 rescues right now. Rose, Beebe and Poncho. They were doomed to the needle or the pound. Not if I could help it they were not. So now they live with Dh and me. Bless you for having a love for the little pigs.
thepondlady, it's so nice to hear of other people who know the horrors of pet store animals. When I mention it, people tend to think I'm crazy. When I got Precious and Goofball, the pet store was newly opened. So they were a little cautious on their image and thankfully, neither were sick. Precious has had little to no healthy issues and Goofball was healthy until 24 hours before she passed. I'm glad they are so healthy but I cringe when I hear that people buy pet store animals. Aw, that's great! I love those names, soo cute! I love dogs, but I can't have one considering the number of animals I have already. I prefer to pamper the animals at shelters by volunteering. I can love and care for them without a long term commitment! Thank you Netty! I think that Precious thinks she's too cute for her own good.
You go girl! :-D I have a cat collection The momma cat was abandoned by her owner when he moved out of the house across the street from us. Needless to say she had 2 babies. My neighbor and I took in all 3 kitties, had them fixed and now take turns feeding them. She serves breakfast & I serve dinner I know it's close to dinner time when they start banging against the front door Even my husband is starting to feed them and talk to them! They don't come in the house but we consider them part of our family! Now, if I could just claim them on my taxes!
welcome to gaarden stew christina! what wonderful pics and pets! is that a stuffed animal in the first pics on the right? i use them for our pets too for company when they're small!
Rose was a puppy mill momma dog. She is an English toy spaniel, 6 years of constant breeding almost killed her. She is so shy and scared, My heart went out to her the first time I seen her. She is now spayed and Happy living with us.
Bunkie, yep that's a stuffed animal! The piggies have bunches. I think they are just so cute and make the cages more customized to their personalities and cozy too! Wow. What a life for little Rose. I can't imagine that! I bet she is soo thankful she's got such a great and loving home now. After having the dynamic duo of Precious and Goofball for a year, I decided it was time to expand. I went to the local shelter, but not for a pig, simply to see if they sold guinea pig supplies. Of course, though, I walked out with Nugget. Our third guinea pig! Nugget joined Precious and Goofball with, uh... some ease. It took some time, but they accepted her. Nugget is the result of some genius believing he could make a quick buck by breeding guinea pigs and selling them to local pet stores. Soon, he ended up with too many piggies to keep track of and pet stores were not buying them. So many piggies ended up in the shelter. Nugget was the last baby to be adopted!
Beebe was 5 months old and going to be put down because the owners claimed that people kept stepping on her?? Her tail is broken in 3 places, Badly enough that it never healed Properly. She is now spayed and been with us for 4 years. She is my constant side kick!
Awwwh! They are all so cute. I can understand why you ended up with eleven of them. We've got two cats that adopted us. One we know the history of. The other one just showed up, demanding to become a member of the family. They certainly know a soft hearted idiot when they see one, but I'm glad they did.
We have 2 piggies, Snowball and Pebbles. They are such grumpy little critters, but such characters. We got them from a lady who had a suprise litter and didn't want them. I don't know why they are grumpy, we handle them gently, and love them and mollycoddle them, but still they nip and struggle. I love hearing them squeak as I head up the garden to feed them their greens or get them out for a run. Two is enough for me...I don't think I could cope with 11.
