This is my veg garden scarecrow. I forgot to put her in with the garden pics. Her eyes and mouth glow in the afteroon sun. Hopefully she will scare the pests away.[IMG]
These bluebirds cuties in our box are just a few days away from fledging.[IMG]
We've had three successful bluebird nests this summer. Bluebirds have made a big comeback in this part of the country due to the many boxes put out for them. Build it and they will come!

Wow are you sure that is not a gnome scarecrow Bethie because that's scary as heck!

Kidding aside what is it made from? You seem to have a thing for these type of faces, it reminds me of the moon you did also :D

And the bluebirds are just the icing on the cake! You never told us about these Bethie (translation: more pics please :D)

Where'd you get that freaky scarecrow? Looks like an Aztec god that didn't get his supper!

The scarecrow is made out of copper, then I put a dark patina on it. I just started bashing some copper and soldering it together and shaping it up. I love to bash stuff and have my own sledgehammer-and I love to make a mess. As a little girl my nickname was "messy bethie".
We are a bird friendly place here with anywhere from 20 to 40 birdnests at one time in our yard. Our wren is already on nest number three in a watering can on the patio. 8)

Bethie that scarecrow is a wonderful piece of modern art. :-D Hope it does the trick in keeping the birds off you plants.

I've never seen bluebird babies up close before as we don't get them here in Scotland. They look quite similar to our bluetits though. Is there any chance you could take a photograph of an adult bird as I've love to see one? What other types of birds are nesting in you garden?

I'll try to get a bluebird pic, they are very beautiful and desirable. They eat a lot of bugs.
Nesting here we have cardinals, wrens, bluejays, phoebes, bluebirds, chickadees, titmice, field sparrows, indigo buntings (they are a glorious blue) English sparrows, screech owls, sparrow hawks, robins, thrashers, goldfinches, towhees, downy woodpeckers, hairy WP, flickers, red-bellied woodpeckers. For sure I'm leaving some worthy birds out. We feed year round here. Our yard is long so we can have as many as five pairs of cardinals nesting in it at once. They are slightly territorial but seem willing to put up with each other so they can stay. 8)

Great scarecrow, you have a wonderful talent.

Love the birds, I don't encourage them bc of the cats. I am sure they have nest all over in the overgrown part of the yard, that's why I hate to get it cleared.

Very scary scarecrow - shoot, that would scare a lot more than crows. Love the pic of the bluebirds, they're adorable!

I love your scarecrow, bethie....but even more I love the idea of the nesting boxes for the birds. We have lots of birds around here and I'd love to try doing some boxes, can you tell me how to get started?
