I saw this pileated woodpecker (male) digging out a hole high up in a tree. I'm hoping that it sticks around and has a mate etc. Would be great to get a sequence of shots of young ones etc. I have had a female feed young on the sundeck this past two years. pileated making nest hole. Congratulations on your new neighbor! My folks have one that tries to drill into their stove pipe Makes Mom nuts, poor Dad can't hear it!!
I do hope the male in your photograph has a mate and sets up home in that tree. Fingers crossed for some more of your exceptional shots when/if youngsters appear.
