If a beginner wanted to add more indoor plants to their living space which plants would you suggest that are relatively easy to take care of?
Hi Sureenna, try a Philodendron. Easy to care for, several are variegated. Arrowhead plant, Syngonium podophyllum is another in the same family Araceae. Jerry
if you have enough humidity ferns are very easy and don't require bright light. If you like ferns, you can run a humidifier in the room to help.
Epipremnum aureum (pothos) Dracaena, Sansevieria trifasciata (snake plant) Chlorophytum comosum (spider plant)
You can't go wrong with a Heartleaf Philodendron. I've let mine completely dry out (not on purpose!) and it bounced right back with a thorough watering. Be sure to pinch it back as it grows to help it branch out.
worldblue I agree with you on the philodendrens. I plant mine in pots with no holes in the bottom; fill with dirt and then fill with water. They live just as well with a pot full of watery dirt as with just dirt. The best part is that I just check to see if there is water at the top. The more sun the bigger the leaves. Cuttings always go back into the pots or to friends. If you tend to over/under water this is the easy plant and method to grow.
Golden pothos, any philodendrons, wandering Jew, and succulents are usually easy to grow. Norfolk Island pines are not difficult, and can make you look like a pro. Monstera plant is quite easy also. I call it a 'monster plant' since it gets so huge. It resembles philodendrons.
spider plants are so so so so easy! Peace lilly, arrow plant, pothos, If you have decent light (not harsh) -geranium and african violets. There are a lot more too
I like these five indoor plants: Snake Plant / mother in law's tongue Chinese Evergreen Dumb Cane / Lily Leopard Golden Pothos Dracaena And there are also artificial indoor plants: Artificial trees, plants and landscaping all look great and friendly, without concern, care and maintenance related to living plants. Over-watering, irrigation and access to the right amount of light is never a problem with our amazing real looking artificial trees and plants. Even the trunks of the trees look so natural and real. I totally agree with starting off with things like Phil's and Peace Lilies. Dumbcanes and dracaena are also very easy plants to take care of. If you want something a bit more exotic (but still really easy), Jade plants are always a staple item for beginner plant-keepers. If you like ease of the Peace Lily, Lady Janes are beautiful. They are very similar to the Peace Lily but are pink.
