Hi, Am new to garden stew. Just signed up today...a few of us gravitated over from BHG-garden talk, which is moving to FB. Looks like a nice place with friendly people here and a lot of info. Anyway, my question is...why my Nippon daisy won't bloom. Just cleaned it up and it's still living but nothing flowers from the last couple of years. I know it's a fall plant, last one to bloom here in zone 5b...does it have "special" needs I don't know about? Thanks in advance for any info. Jan
You'll find some good growing information here: http://www.gardeningcentral.org/montauk_daisy/montauk_daisy.html Have you considered dividing your plants? If they are older and very crowded, that could cause a decrease in blooms. Hard pruning now might also help produce more blooms this fall. Rosie
Jan.C, Thanks for introducing me to a new/different daisy. http://www.monkeysee.com/play/12102-how-to-grow-montauk-daisy Here is a short video about growing them. I was surprised at how late they bloom. Could you be getting freezes before they bloom? Maybe the video will have some new info for you too.
TulsaRose-Thanks for that link. Didn't cut it back last year. It's a fairly new plant and guess I was afraid to kill it, so I treated it with too much kindness.
