The quote is from a story called"The Mighty Prince". Our winter lasted for six months, from mid-October until mid-April. I was so fed-up with the cold I wanted to emigrate to Greece! But now that spring's here I wouldn't trade with anyone. The Dicentras have already started to bloom: The small tulips are always a delight in spring: Our Cypripedium "Ulla Silkens" have obviously forgiven me for the harsh treatment she got last year: The P. auriculas in the western rock border: One morel doesn't make a meal, but at least it's a morel: The wood anemone are blooming. We've got several varieties but unfortunately the only camera that's working isn't very co-operative. . This is an all-green variety whose name escapes me: The Anemone nemorosa monstrosa: We've got daffs: And we've got Fritillaria meleagris: The first dandelion bloom. I'm sort of weirdly happy to see it. New babies waiting for a permanent home, and yes, that's a potato to the left. The girls were fed up with waiting for spring and decided to plant a potato to see if it wanted to grow in a window sill. This is one of the garden inspectors. He thinks it's time I finished the Walls of Jericho-procet. I totally agree. I'll start digging in the morning, Lord Paint, promise! The nice weather's supposed to hold for another couple of days so I'd better make the most of it.
Your flowers are beautiful Droopy! Even the morel mushroom. they are kind of cool looking. My kids went hunting for them last night and brought home 6. hardly enough for 1 person, I think. We ate them anyway.
This is what I have been waiting to see. Great news up there. Don't those daffs look positively Springy! I really like the little tulips, they can be so starkly present when you see them in amongst things. The Dicentras are going to be quite something once they begin blooming. Ahhh at last Droopy spring has found you there in Norway. Isn't it great when you see your garden bursting with new life again? Your small tulips are really lovely as is everything else in your photographs. So glad you can now enjoy being out of doors again and digging in the dirt.

I really like your Anemone nemorosa monstrosa Droppy. Your variety of plants has helped me to find new ones to add to my yard. Things are really jumping out of the ground for you now. Your Lord Paint sure looks like my old Thomas (cat). He was a very proper fellow. I guess wearing a tuxedo all the time does that to one.
Yippee Spring in Norway again! Loved seeing everything coming to life.... can't wait for the next batch of beautiful flowers.
I was talking to one of the mushroom hunters last week. He said that the morels ar coming up here in record numbers. He has been out 3 times and has gotten over 100 each time.
Thanks all for your nice comments. I've counted six morels all told in our garden. I just hope they'll thrive and multiply. I like mushrooms but have never tasted morels. Sjoerd, step two is done. Lord Paint is very happy about that, but now he's nagging me to finish step three. Haha, Frank! I hardly recognize my garden myself. I had almost forgotten what it looked like without snow. Gail and Jewell, are you going to grow the wood anemone? I wish I had a camera that works properly, and I could show you the varieties we've got. The green one's Anemone nemorosa virescens by the way. Cheryl, you'll have to wait a bit more. I'm way too busy cleaning the borders and finding out how many plants we've lost. And I suddenly realized that I'm happiest when I'm dirty. I must be mad!
Good one Droopy! Whenever someone makes a comment about my dirty hands, feet, clothes... I tell them... "The dirtier I get, the more fun I'm having!" So... I guess there's a bunch of mad folks here! :-D
I'm in the dirty mad people's club too. And your garden is looking lovely, Droopy. Even the dandelion. You must be feeling so free now. The litle tulips are awfully pretty. Walls of Jericho.... haha... but they look good and Lord Paint looks good too, surveying his domain. Has he been confined all winter too? Poor girls, resorting to potato growing!
