These are the pictures of my Desert Rose. A very lanky but sturdy plant, very well suited for my arid conditions. Requires full sun, and loves continuous hot weather! Desert Rose 1 ( photo / image / picture from S-H's Garden ) Desert Rose 2 ( photo / image / picture from S-H's Garden )
Here is another picture of it! I found a song by Sting called "Desert Rose" (see link below). Don't know if he had this plant in mind or not (as I don't see it in the video). But this plant is very well suited for a desert environment. http://youtu.be/C3lWwBslWqg Desert Rose 3 ( photo / image / picture from S-H's Garden )
That is beautiful. the color is almost neon, I'm not sure I can think of anything similar in color here.
Lovely! The bloom looks almost like a lily of some sort. Like Carolyn, I can think of nothing like it here in the States.
They are exactly the same shape as Magnolias, only 20% larger - However the petals are extremely soft, and have the same feel and thickness as paper-towels. The flowers last for about 2 weeks, sometimes a bit longer too. They basically indicate that Summer has started.
That last photograph is really lovely S-H with the water droplets on the petals. Are those flowers scented by any chance?
They really are beautiful, Adenium Obesum, I had one last year and over watered it. MY bad. Looks like you give it just what it needs.
No Eileen, the flowers are not scented. But some insects are attracted to it, so it must be giving off something... By the way, those droplets in the last picture is actually early morning dew. And Featherphobia, well, this plant in not a native of my area. But has excepted this sizzling hot climate very well. So I hardly have to do anything regarding it's care - The plant manages itself, totally on it's own, without any help!
Super gorgeous flower! That color is definitely an eye-opener! And it thrives in dry heat? Even better! Great job of keeping it looking so pretty.
Maybe I'm wrong, but the Desert Rose plant is from the family which is called Adenium Obesum (a kind of succulent), native to Northeastern Africa and the Middle East. So if your climate is mercilessly hot, than growing this plant will be very easy for you. It's also very easy to propagate as well, by cuttings. And does not even require good quality soil! However I have read on some websites that it is somewhat poisonous. So homes that have pets and little children should avoid growing this plant.
