That's a nice array of fruit, veg and flowers. You guys are quite a bit further along than me. Its encouraging to see how well things are developing there. The radishes and strawbs are about the same as here. Keepo up the good work and don't forget to show more update pics in the coming weeks. Well done, you!
Thanks Sjoerd, My husband and youngest son are a HUGE help in the vegetable garden. I wouldn't get nearly as much done without them. They are my greenhouse and hightunnel builders, also.
What an amazing garden set-up you've got going! Are all the veggies from family consumption? Or do you spread it around?
I am watching your rhubarb. A neighbor gave us a clump of rhubarb which I divided into 5 plants. Now we have 5 clumps of gigantic leaves on long stalks and have no idea when to cut them. When do you harvest the stalks? I can smell rhubarb pie. Jerry
Jerry, Rhubarb is edible right now. alls you do is "twist and pull" a stalk. Break it right off from the base of the plant. Don't cut it. Then trim off the leaf and the bottom and you are good to go. Use it as you want, cobbler, pie, topping, etc. If you have a flower stalk coming up, pull it off and toss it in the compost bin. You don't want that wasting your plants energy to make seeds. Cheryl, I do farmers markets through out the summer. I start my first on next Saturday. So we hustle all spring long to get stuff in and have fresh produce for the first one. then anything I don't unload there I can or freeze for the winter. Netty, My husband pushes even when I don't want to go out because it's cold and wet(unusual, huh?), otherwise we wouldn't be as far as we are. The hightunnel makes a huge difference in getting the produce started. I can go outside, but not be out in the rain and wind. And the production is much higher in a smaller space, this make it much more efficient. We put an injection system in and ran drip tape to every row in the garden and in the hightunnels. so no hand watering now, all we do is turn on the water and drop the syphon in the fertilizer bucket and set the timer , then I have more time to weed.
Really like those 4th of july tomatoes! Which reminds me, I've got some Cherry Tomato seeds saved - Think I'll do something with them soon, (just hope this heatwave in my part of the world is short lived)!
S-H, those 4 of july are produced by burpee. they are the earliest tomato we have found so far, that we think TASTES good. It's not real big, but it does produce adundantly.
