I have both of my new 57 gal. rain barrels in place. One is full and the other one will probably be full by Mon. or Tues. That will give me 114 gals of rain water for plants etc this summer. Here is a pic of the full one. They are made by Fiskars and I paid $ 98 dollars US for each of them.
I have one of those out in front, I love having it really handy for potted plants that aren't in the direct line of fire of the sprinklers.
They look like quality top notch rain barrels Captain. The plants will appreciate them during the hot dry days of summer. Jerry
I saw those the other day at the home center. Very nice looking. Question... how does the attachment to the downspout of the gutter work?
The diverter has a ridged section in it that fills up and channels the rain into the tube and the barrel. Once the barrel is full to the tube, the rain backs up and then runsb down and out the downspout. Very simple and wroks great!
I like your new rain barrel. I have one that works well but is not as attractive as yours, but we paid ten dollars for it, and luckily it is screened from view by a brick wall and a big ornamental grass... After the past few days, its full!
Capt... so you had to dismantle your downspout and lodge their device between sections? Just trying to figure it out...
Evil Roy here, the plastic diverter goes in the downspout roughly even with the inlet on the barrel. I used a hacksaw to cut the downspout, put the diverter in, and put the bottom section back on.
What Roy said. The directions for installing it come with it and it's very easy to install. Takes about 5 minutes.
Thanks for asking that question Cherylad... and for the answers, Capt and Evil Roy. Great looking, and the diverter thing looks very smart.
We had almost a 1/2 inch of rain here this morning, so both barrels are full. That's 114 gallons of rain water for plants, if it ever drys out here! The farmers still haven't been able to get in the fields. No corn or beans planted anywhere in the county. Normally they would have all of the corn in and most of the soybeans.
