Heather Logan-Reese I will keep everyone updated. They are saying she has a condition called Sundowners, which can be the early stages of dementia. They are going to be transferring her to see a psychiatrist and see if it is caused from her body trying to get rid of all the meds she is on..plus she only has 1 kidney now so it takes longer to filter her blood. I just want her to be better.

Her actions sound like she could be alergic to the meds she is on, taking meds that negatively interact with each other or they are giving her a dosage too high for her system. Hopefully the problem is something as easy to take care of as that. One hint, don't ask a doctor about drug interactions, the pharmacist has to keep up with all that information so will be better able to answer you.

This article mentions it being caused by drug interactions or stress associated with lower cognitive function....which Glenda will have after having the stroke. It can be associated with forms of dementia but not always.

I just finished up a nursing assistant class and we learned about sundowning. it is high agitation with other symptoms during dusk usually associated with a brain disorder such as Alzheimer's. It wouldn't first be apparent without having first a steady decline . In other words she wouldn't all of a sudden exhibit sun downing without first having blatant signs of Alzheimer's.. I am thinking it's the kidney/medications or something to that affect.. I didn't know her but I will say a prayer for her.. God Bless.

I'm keeping everything crossed that Glenda is having a bad reaction to the medication she is taking. Poor Heather and her family must be at their wits end with worry.

I do hope it is a medication problem, that is something the doctors can address.
Glenda is always in our prayers. Thank you Dooley for the update.

I found these on facebook this morning and copied and pasted them here. dooley
    Heather Logan-Reese
Just got back from the hospital.Mama is much worse. She thinks she is in Texas and the nurses have kidnapped her.She has been throwing things at all the nurses and yelling and cussing them out.Hopefully they will have the psychiatrist evaluate her in the morning and help her.

Heather Logan-Reese Cheri~They have taken her off all her meds and slowely added the ones she needs, like her blood pressure meds. So they are looking at other things to see what could have caused it.

Heather Logan-Reese Scott, I could be better. I already had a issue with postpartum depression and all this going on with Mama is just really getting to me. I'm praying that they find out what is going on and how to help her. Thank you for praying for us..we need all the prayers we can get!

When my Mom was in the hospital year before last for a cracked tail bone her meds caused all sorts of confusion and hallucinations. She kept calling me when she needed something, called me to help her get into bed for the night (she was in bed) called me to bring her something to eat, called me when she swore there was someone in the room with her just sitting and staring at her, called me to come unlock her door cause someone kept banging on it (it was the floor polisher hitting the door as they cleaned the hall floors)
I kept telling her she was in the hospital and there were nurses to take care of her but she swore that wherever she was she was alone and I had to come help her. I lost count of how many trips I made down there to settle her down.

When she went into the rehab facility it was the same thing only she added that they were giving her the wrong blood pressure meds (she takes two 180mg a day but they didn't have that strength at first so they were giving her more of a smaller dose) She swore that a nurse had stolen her flashlight out from under her pillow (she had no flashlight) and that someone had taken all the candy in her dresser drawer (none there to begin with)

Once they took her off the pain meds and the other meds and just put her back on her blood pressure meds and her celexa she mind cleared up.
Hopefully this will happen with Glenda too.

Toni... that sounds just like the case with my Mom.
Hopefully they'll get Glenda's med lined out.

I really hope they get to the root of Glenda's problems sooner rather than later. Heather must be under terrible strain trying to cope with everything. :(
