Hiya All. I've just registered and am looking forward to some interesting threads! I'm a rank amateur gardener, but as I've just been forcibly retired (at 56!) I guess i'm going to have time on my hands to try lots of new things. Like photography, making music, cycling, and cooking, including making bread, something I've always fancied doing! :-o

Hello Colin, and welcome to the GardenStew! This is a great place to share stories, ask questions, answer queries and just generally enjoy the company of other gardeners. We are in Central Texas on a small farm. I love to bake bread, and do so at least once a week. We also have vegetable gardens, herb beds, flowers, bee hives and chickens. Finding time to visit with my GardenStew friends is really important to me, though!
Hi Colin, Welcome from Missouri USA. Bread is not hard to do. Just be sure the water for your yeast is not too hot. If it is just right for baby, it is just right for yeast. Cold water even works, only slower. Too hot will kill the little yeasts. I learned to make bread back in the 1970s, and my first batch was so bad the dog refused to eat it. It was hard as a brick. It just takes practice and maybe some 'waste' with your education on it. It isn't really wasted if you are learning better. Retirement is fun when you can try all kinds of new things.
