Hello all! I am new to the forum and hope you can help me identify this shrub. I would love to plant this in the yard. I live in Houston, the shrub was planted as a hedge, is about 5-6 feet tall, the flower spikes are actually greenish/yellow buds that bloom into timy lavender flowers. They are very fragrant. Thanks for the help!! ( photo / image / picture from LoriWisdom's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from LoriWisdom's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from LoriWisdom's Garden ) [/img]
Hi and welcome to GardenStew. It's a Texas Native, drought tolerant and loves our heat. Vitex agnus-castus (Chaste Tree, Texas Lilac)
Thank you so much!!! I'm pretty excited to start adding plants to my yard, we just bought this house and have had a ton of surprises so far. This week what I thought was a weed I was cultivating turned out to be Pride of Barbados!
We have another member in the Houston area who is growing the Pride of Barbados and loves it. Anytime you find a plant you don't recognize, post a photo of it here with or without blooms and someone will probably be able to Identify it for you. Hope you enjoy the forum as much as we all do and hope you have lots of free time because it is addictive
Hi Lori... and welcome from another Texan. I'm the one that Toni mentioned that has Pride of Barbados growing... and boy is it growing! Every bit of 6 foot tall now. Anyhow... I'm glad you got an ID on that plant (I figured Toni would be able to help out). I'm definitely adding that one to my wish list. It sure is a beauty!
