Hi everyone, I have a daliha bush and a hardy hibicus and neither one of them came up this spring I pulled up the roots to both of them and they look good with big big bulbs, Can I plant them some where else and maybe they will come up, They were so pretty last year I want them back please help. :'( this is what they looked like last year weren't they pretty. Dahlia and Hibiscus are summer bloomers, they don't start showing any green until the weather is sufficiently warm enough for them. I'm thinking that your spring temps are not quite warm enough for them to make an appearance. If those bulbs are still firm then, stick them back in the ground where they were and give them a few more weeks. Besides Spring officially lasts until mid-June so there is plenty of Spring time for them to show up.
Those are very pretty Margie! I agree with Toni - it's a little early for the Hibiscus. Dahlia's need to be dug up for the winter here so I don't know what to tell you about them. Good luck!
Here there are no signs of dahlias coming up and my hibiscus bushes do not yet have any leaf buds. I think that you will have to wait a bit longer, it is still too early (at least here). I believe that if you plant those dahlias backin the ground, they ought to come up eventually....check the tubers carefully though, since you have lifted them---just to make sure that they have not rotted.
Daliha bushes Weell This tuber does have some purple looking shoots or something on it so maybe thats where it's trying to start, What do you all think. I will try to post a pic, in a little bit maybe that will help. Thank you margie
Stick it back in the ground where it was, throw some compost in the hole too. Then all you have to do is sit back and wait for it to make it's appearance above ground and get on with the process of growing and blooming.

Dahlias Margie, your lucky. I'm in Ohio zone 5b and I have to dig my dahlias, cannas, for-O-clocks and glad bulbs every fall and store them inside for the winter. The picture of your tuber shows plenty of new sprouts, so it should grow well.
What zone r u in Margie? I'm in 7. Freezing temps. Hardy hibiscus dies to the ground to come back in late spring. Dahlia - don't like them only cause i have to dig up the potatoes in the fall.
Yes, I am curious about those dahlias too. I did not know they could be left in the ground as far north as Indiana.
Hi Margie12u; boy that is really great that it survived threw the winter. Here in Wis. we have to dig up the dahlia's and bring them in for the winter. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
