More stats will probably be changed because of the summer of 2011. It looks like 2011 will take over the #1 slot for number of consecutive days of 100 or higher temps (42 in 1980).
And now there is some talk among the weather prognosticators that the record (also from 1980) of 69 days of 100 or higher for a summer season will fall to the seemingly unending summer of 2011.

The official temperature at the reporting station in this area was 110. Hotter tomorrow. Rain is a word that most weather people have forgotten how to spell since they haven't been able to put in the forecast since early June.

Not really the sort of record you want to beat ... 69 days of 100 or higher over a summer! Maybe beating the previous record of the number of consecutive days of 100 or over could be enough. It just sounds awful.

Thanks Droopy, we just got home from a visit with my Mom so there was a short trip in the 101 degree temp, your photos are much appreciated.
So cool, chilly and if I clear my mind of the heat I can almost feel my feet getting cold from standing in the snow.

I have never seen #3 in the second set, that is as gorgeous scene.

It's snowing in Norway already?? :) We need some heat related activities, An ice cube melting contest. How long can you keep an ice cube alive in 100+ degree weather. Walk around(shade only) and find the coolest spot in town using a super duper hand held non-contact thermometer. An alternative area is find the coolest spot in your own yard.

Frank, that's a good cold photo. I'll just sit here thinking about walking up and down that walkway with no coat, hat or gloves on ....that would feel soooo good right about now.

Tony, ick ick ick on that weather you are having. So, no relief in sight yet ? I am soooooo thankful I no longer live down there in Texas. It is way too hot for me and the water tastes nasty-- it was full of sulphur and salt where I lived, and a little gasoline for flavor. :smt118 [ The son of a friend of mine used to drive big rigs for the oil companies back in 1973, and they were sent out to dump gasoline down the old salt wells around Houston while everyone had to wait forever in lines for some. They were deliberately jacking up the prices. You could see it floating on the water up around Ft Worth too.] Anyhoo, I cannot tolerate such heat either. Be careful, and keep hydrated.

Here are couple of pics of the damages from the ice storm of December 1, 2006. It took me 5 months to clean up the damages, and that was with help from friends.

I think the snow photos might be helping the temperatures drop, they have been cooler the last few days. By cooler I mean under 105 for the most part.

Today is day #41 in the 100+ streak, even the weather guy is saying it would be a shame to get this close to the record and not at least tie it. There is a chance of only 99 degrees on Saturday but then the temps start climbing above 100 again on Sunday.
Sometimes 99 is such a waste, it could be 99.99 degrees and not be called 100 but we all know that 99 is 100 in actual fact.

I need a vacation at the North Pole or better yet the South Pole I wouldn't mind finding some Penguins to hang out with until...oh say...December.

Houston as tied their 10-in-a-row days off 100F+ record...

We was robbed  We made it through day 40 (Wednesday) with a high of 104 but yesterday on what would have been day 41 the leftover clouds of a collapsing rain show in Oklahoma moved over us and dropped the temp down to about 85 for an hour. The clouds moved off leaving us still high and dry, but it was late enough in the day that the temp could only reach 97 before sunset. So 2011 will go in the record book as #2 at 40 days of consecutive 100+ temperatures.

But lest you think the heat is over, be assured that it has come back with a vengance .... today was 103 and it is supposed to be a steady 105 for the next 8 days.
The count in on to see how long this streak lasts.

And 2011 is only 27 days away from the record total number of 100+ days for the summer....again 1980 holds the record at 69. Wonder how close we will get to that one.

Drats Toni! I was really hoping you'd get your record.
But oh well.... #2 isn't so bad. And I bet everything (and everyone) up there almost went into shock with 85F... even for just an hour. :-D
