My butterfly population is down this year despite adding more plants to attract them. The plants they are most attracted to are my phlox, bee balm, salvia, zinnias, verbena and impatiens. The last few days I am seeing more butterflies.

Fantastic photos as always. But the first one of the Great Spangled Fritillary is hands-down my favorite. I just love that blue amid the brown. :setc_089:

These are very lovely foto's Gail. It is the sort of foto spread that I must keep looking at over and over again. These are little masterpieces of natural artwotk. I especially like that last foto of the Fritallary. --Silver on insect wings....How DID Mother Nature think of it.

You did catch that hummingbird moth (next to last pic) just at the right moment, didnt you...the uncoiling proboscis.

I also liked the backgrounds on the fotos. I thoroughly enjoyed this posting of yours.

Gail you always take the nicest photographs of the wildlife that visits your garden.
The Buckeye in your picture is similar to our Peacock butterfly. I really like the shots of the Clearwing Hummingbird Hawk Moth. We don't have anything like them here in Scotland.

What a nice selection of butterflies you've got in your area. I'm green with envy. The photos are lovely, I have to grab myself by the neck in order to leave them.

Thanks Cheryl, the Fritillary is a lovely butterfly the silver spots reflect the color of the flower is you get the light just right.
Calin the bees are prolific here this year, nice shot.
Sjoerd, as I told Cheryl those silvery spots are like mirrors if you catch the sun just right. I also have a silver spotted skipper in my garden The Humminbird moths are everywhere this year in the last two days I captured 2 mating pairs in the act.
Eileen, one of my favorite things about the stew is seeing photos from around the world and different areas of the US... wildlife, birds, butterflies & blooms we would not otherwise see.
Droopy, thank you. As much as I love my garden & the lovely visitors, the sweltering heat wins out. It was 99 fh yesterday. Between the sweat stinging my eyes and my lens fogging up...I am forced to go inside.
Frank, nature is an awesome gift.
Appreciate the compliments MG, Philip & Donnna

Thanks CM...definately need a steady hand with a 300mm lens. Most of the time I do not use a tripod, they move around too fast!
