Does anyone know about this plant and do you know if it can be divided? Got it at a plant swap. Going to try to attach a pic.
What a lovely flower your Swamp Hibiscus has Lily. I would imagine that it could be divided in spring just as the new shoots begin to appear. Maybe someone else could confirm this for you.
That's a pretty one. Not easy to get more from seeds ??? I think I have the same hibiscus from seeds I got in a swap. Got at least 10-15 small seedlings cause I just always forgot to transplant them in the garden.
You might get seeds from natural pollination because I know that Savannah has Hibiscus planted all over the place.
I believe your Swamp Hibiscus is the same as what we call Texas Star Hibiscus. The bloom will only last one day. And 99.9% of them will turn into a seed pod. When it's brown, hard and about ready to split open, you can harvest it. Each pod has LOTS of seeds which are very easy to start. They do put on new shoots each spring, but I've never tried dividing one.
What a beautiful plant, I wish I had one in my garden. Sorry I can't help with the question but I wanted to let you know that I enjoyed seeing it.
Yes , it is also called Texas Star; have been reading up on it. It has put on like 4 blooms so far and you're right; only lasts for one day..but are so beautiful! Thank you for your reply :-D
