Hi all! I was sitting here relaxing watching TV and making my seed packets. I'm sure there are really good ideas of things people use for making them. I get a lot of free calendars during the year from "causes" that I give to. They always have really nice colorful pictures, so I fold them into thirds and use a seed envie form and cut them out of that. Then fold and tape the ends. It's sturdy, folds crisply and looks pretty! Anybody else make their own seed trading packets out of reused materials?
My husband's bee supplies come packaged with an off-white paper that is the texture and consistency of a brown paper bag. I iron it (okay, okay, I'm obsessive) and then cut it into rectangles, which get folded, taped, and made into small (3" square)envelopes. I use pencil to label the contents and date. Most of my seed-swapping is done locally, so I don't know how they'd stand up to the rigors of the post office, even enclosed in another standard envelope. For mailing, I use a small plastic zip-loc bag and write the variety and any instructions on a slip of paper that I tuck into the bag. Your calendar idea sounds much prettier. Wonder if it would work with birthday, Christmas, and other cards?
marlin - you read my mind. I thought about using my old Christmas cards too. They might be a little tougher to fold being thicker but I'm sure that will work, too
I use paper tea bag envelopes...Bromley's tea...they are good for seeds I will be sowing within the year.
Wow you guys those are great ideas. I usually just put my seeds in empty 35mil film containers. I will keep those in mind.
