    Hybrid Geese ( photo / image / picture from kathyd's Garden )

This white goose has fascinated me for years. She hangs out at the local lake and park with all the wild geese. This year I noticed she has produced at least four goslings who are now full grown and sporting a tuxedo look. The white goose has blue eyes and a knot above her beak. I find this hybrid group really interesting, and hope they will continue to populate the lake. Geese can be a problem in this area, but it seems the group that populate this lake never become over abundant or aggressive.

I don't think I've ever seen hybrid Barnacle geese before. Those two certainly look very smart don't they? Mum looks very proud standing guard over her youngters.

I'm not sure what a Barnacle Neck goose is, I'll have to look it up. The new geese look good. I guess they are full grown now. I wasn't sure if they could fly, but a day or two ago when I walked I saw the mother and two of her children spread their wings and fly just as well as any of the other geese.

Just to give you some idea of the similarity to the Barnacle Goose,..they are the first picture,..but in the second shot you have a Canada Goose.

Those young geese are very pretty kathyd.
Are they any less aggressive than the Canadian Geese?
I wondered if the white one had 1 leg or was just standing with the other leg tucked underneath?

Thanks for the pictures Philip. Eileen, yes, she looks very proud, and Netty she is not aggressive. She was quite relaxed while I was near her, and the leg uptucked was just a restful pose. I was very close to her and her children when I took the picture. The lake borders a public park so the geese are quite used to walkers and even leashed dogs. Ed, I know you live nearby...this is in Alcyon Park where they often have a big fireworks display on the Fourth, perhaps you have been to this park. Bip, I would love to see a picture of your hybrid ducks. I'll keep a lookout on the forum pages.
