    Dragon-Wing Begonia with Boy ( photo / image / picture from kathyd's Garden )

I painted this small, 5 x7, watercolor of my grandson sitting beside a prized dragon-wing begonia. I opted for an Impressionistic look due to the small size of the painting. I love using my garden and the gardens in my area for reference photos for painting.

what talent. What memories you must have had just painting that picture? Was this just one second in time with the whirlwind a small child can be, unless he is asleep?

Hi Kathy, this is something a gardener would love. It's lovely. Can you tell us a bit about how you got into painting? (or did I miss it somewhere :?)

Thanks for taking a look at my painting. Frank I have been painting since 1994. Actually, because it is so small, 5 x7, this watercolor was difficult. The face is smaller than a quarter and is easy to overwork the space when it is that small. I paint a lot of my garden photographs, and since I live near Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa., I also take many reference photos there. I also try to include a small inchworm in all my watercolors or art work.

What a nice balance of colors--the begonia picking up the soft red in his shirt, the shading of the greens--and you were so right to use an Impressionistic style. Lovely painting, and not bad subject matter, either!

Thanks for your kind comments. Being a grandmother has been one of my best joys in life. It was, and is, everything I had hoped it would be...and I just found out number three is on the way, sometime in May. Hooray!

Thanks Philip, No I never was told that. I can see where it does have a bit of that style though. Perhaps in the ivy...Sometimes it takes fresh eyes to open your eyes to your own work. Thanks for the input.
