My husband made me a small cedar tray to put out by the patio for watching the Blue Jays and usually Cardinals. I haven't seen a cardinal on it yet, but I hope I do .... I did have a Coopers Hawk on it yesterday but all I could think of doing was chasing him away from the house so he wouldn't get a Blue Jay..

Excellent shots Sherry. I do love to see your photographs as they are always of such a high quality. Let's hope the hawk stays away and that your Blue Jays remain safe.

I quite liked this series of shots, Sherry. I could look at them all day long.
I enjoy their colour and posture.

They sure seem to like those peanuts!

Great photos again. Your Blue Jays seem "bluer" than the I one's I see.

Nice shots. I wouldn't chase the hawks away as the birds may be hiding. You might frighten them out and then they are them easy pickings for the hawk.

Sherry, They are beautiful. I also could look at your pictures all day.

I have raised many of them from hatching and they are one of the most strong willed critters I know. They are always on the watch for things. They are also comedians and mischievous and thieves but so loving too. So cute.

Barb....I agree 100%...the only thing that here in Wisconsin, I don't have trouble with them pushing the other birds out of the way. Our Mourning Doves chase everything away when they are on the big tray feeder...even one another.

I have the pair of Blue Jays that seem to be together all the time. I put peanuts out and sometimes it seems that I have a dozen of them. I will have to have my husband clean the gutters before winter because I can hear them pounding to open their peanuts.

Could you start your own post and tell us about raising the Blue Jays? I would find it very interesting.

Kildale....chasing the hawks away doesn't upset the smaller birds. I am not near the bushes or christmas trees to scare them off and the dogs barking doesn't seem to bother them either. My dogs walk right next to the trees daily and they don't fly out..the hawk does get some of them when he pushes right into the trees and picks one off of a branch. He has to eat too and I am sure he gets quite a few of them because I am not at the window constantly...We have plenty of hawks here in our area .

Sherry, I have been told I could write a book on all my little birds that I raised saved. They all went out in the wild. One Robin decided to stay with us for 2 seasons, then finally got a girlfriend, had babies and raised them right outside my house. "Robbie Dobbie" he made the front page or our news paper back them.
