These two managed to bloom while we had a few days of relatively good weather, i.e. just a bit of rain and very little wind: Lilium "Shocking" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Lilium "Triumphator" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) The Astilbe usually delivers no matter the weather, and it seems the bees are grateful for the fact: Bees like the Astilbe ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) This Phlox was a tiny baby last year when I got it. Now it has spread out and I've even given a small piece away. I hope it keeps on spreading, since I love it: Phlox amoenea "Variegata" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) We bought this Gentiana in spring and it managed to bloom before the first frost. It's a very late bloomer so I'm grateful it made a show. The blue colour's very pretty but what really got me is the fact that it's double. Gentiana sino-ornata "Eugens allerbeste" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) I guess the next blooms we see are frost roses.
Beautiful!!! I miss my lilies, I won't see them again until March or April or February if the weather stays this warm.
Good morning, I really enjoyed your photos, I have never seen a double gentiana or a variegated phlox, I am always interested in different plants.You have a few there, and real nice ones too.I cant imagine not having a garden for six months of the year.Pink astilbe is also new to me.

We've got some calendula outside, and that's about it. They're nice and orange, so they brighten things up.
Yes, Droopy, Shocking. I totally can relate to your weather this year. rain, cold, rushing, running, wet rain, INCHES upon INCHES of the stuff. So much that we have already topped a hundred year record. and we have usually another month of weather that is more likely to rain than snow. Your blooms are spectacular. You know my weakness for white and blue flowers Droopy. It'll come as no surprise to you then that my favourite is your double gentiana closely followed by the Lilium "Triumphator." I only have a few heathers still in flower but nothing much else to shout about. :-| Our weather seems to have been just as horendous as yours has. We've had severe frosts and freezing fog this week. I sincerely hope neither have reached you yet.
Hi Droopy, lovely showing of blooms,..Lilies are always stunning,..and that Pink Astilbe is like Candy Floss,..i really am impressed with that Phlox amoenea 'variegata',..and what a beauty that Gentiana is,..i must look out for that Phlox and the Gentiana over here.
I don't know what it is about lilies, but they always send a bit of thrill through me, and then...when I smell them...ahh....these are gorgeous.

Carolyn, shared misery is half misery, right? I just wish I could share my rain with somebody. The lilies have a lovely scent but it wasn't very strong due to the cold weather. Yes, eileen, I know you like white and blue. We've had some frost a few weeks ago, and by the look of things we'll have more shortly. Philip, I do hope you'll find the plants where you are. Even though Norway's a small country we seem to get a rather wide selection of rare plants due to some avid collectors who love to divide and sell for a reasonable price. Thanks, Netty. I really like Gentiana. They seem to deliver despite the weather. Kathy, we like lilies a lot! We've got a nice selection but the drawback is the amount of lily beetles that seem very determined to ruin them all. Kay, thanks for your vote of confidence. I could show you all the poor plants that didn't manage to do much but it's just too disheartening. So I try to focus on what actually managed to look nice.
I just can't get over these lovely blooms that you have. I have a few as well...but nothing like this. An Astilbe!? I'll bet those lilies smell good. It's amazing what a little decent weather can create, innit.
But... but...but... when were these in blooooom? I love that second lily. The first one too, but I have lots like that (or pretty much similar). Gentiana is on top of my oh-I-so-want-this list, but I never get to find any.
Hey, Sjoerd and Calin, these blooms are not blooming now. The lilies did their thing in September, and the Astilbe, Phlox and Gentiana bloomed in early October. Right now we've only got Calendula and the odd re-bloomer outside. I didn't mean to mislead you, honestly.
