Beautiful boxes Donna! Are these boxes for the high rent district or can they be rented for a song? I'll bet the birds line up for these boxes and the waiting list for vacancies must be long. Just one box would spruce any arboreal setting. Jerry
I think you've done a marvelous job on those birdhouses Donna. If I could pick any for myself then I'd claim the little beauty with the butterfly on it and that gorgeous pansy one too.

I can clearly see that a lot of hard work and dedication has been put into these. So with such things, which I am sure will later become objects of some sentimental value - I would advise some sort of a clear plastic spray over the wonderful paint (so it be preserved for all time).
Me and my younger bro made a birdhouse last summer/fall. It's already up in a pear tree in my parents' yard. I just have a question... will any bird like it and settle/nest in it? How can I advertise? What should I do? Whole fall up till now I haven't seen any visitors... well I wasn't really watching.
The hole size and placement, the configuration of the house and hole, the placement in the yard or garden and the height of the ground is another factor in the invitation of who moves in it if anyone. Well Donna yours are very colorfuls = pretty. Birds should be very picky to pass on those! Mine is light blue with a red roof. Looks like a mini house.
I have a Martin house in my back yard that Blue Birds moved into the first year. They have been there for 3 or 4 years now. So I guess you never know who's going to move in.
I don't think the birds care about the appearance of the house... that's for us humans. :-D Two of the things that can be kept in mind about attracting certain birds are the size of the entrance and it's height above ground. Here's some dimensions that I got from a Texas Parks & Wildlife booklet (from Jane) for a general use nesting box. (the first number is the entrance size and the second is the height) Eastern Bluebird 1.5" - 5-10' Carlina Chickadee 1.125" - 6-15' American Kestrel 3" - 15-30' House Finch 2" - 8-12' Screech Owl 3" - 15-30' Tufted Titmouse 1.25" - 6-15' Red-bellied Woodpecker 2.5" - 15-20' Bewick's Wren 1" - 6-10' Carolina Wren 1.125" - 6-10' House Wren 1" - 6-10'
