I planted two Sugar Snap peas in Sept, mainly to have something alive and growing in the garden and there are two vines that have been not only 'hanging in there' through the sub freezing cold snaps we have had the last two months but with the weather warming up a bit this week they have been filling out and the buds are opening up large and beautiful. Sugar Snap pea bloom 1-2012 ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) I had my doubts about one stem of the vine, it was crunched by a bird trying to sit on it last month. But I moved it around so it was supported by another part of the vine and encouraged the tendrils to grab onto the support and that seems to have worked to keep the vine from breaking completely. Filling out nicely ( photo / image / picture from toni's Garden ) Not that I am ready for warmer weather, not by a long shot, but I hope to someday be picking peas for dinner from the two vines I have.
That is just sooooo good to see, Toni. Those luscious-looking white blooms look promising. Who knows, with the peculiar weather that we have been having so far, you may just get a late winter harvest. Wouldn't THAT be something!
Envy is eating me up! Those peas will be delicious when you pick them, and right now the blooms feed your soul. Yes, those are "beauts".
I love Sugar Snap Peas and yours look so healthy and with such pretty flowers too. I would come and help you harvest them when they're ready but none of them would reach your table.
Toni, Very cool flower. Your Peas look like they are happy. With the warm weather I am experiencing here, I oughta be planting some cool season crops too. I could probably be growing peas, spinich etc.
Gardening in January. With temperatures in the teens here, a veggie flower is fantastic. It will be exciting to see pea pods. Jerry
