Hi, I grow begonias here in Australia, I really like the different leaves and types of begonias, they are outside all year.I am wondering whereabouts in the world there might be others growing them too. If you do what about showing them off....I will start Flower of cane begonia...6ft tall ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Beautiful leaves ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Pink cane with flowers ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Ground growing begonia ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Iron Cross ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Great basket plants ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Pretty in pink ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) One of my very favorites ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden )
We grow begonias here too Chocolate but they tend to be bedding plants more so than permanent planting. They can't withstand our Scottish winters and go brown and mushy if left out in the garden. I have no photographs I'm afraid as I won't be planting them again until the last frosts have gone.
They are wonderful. They are such strong bloomers. I have some small ones in the greenhouse that have never bloomed. I should repot and give them special attention. Barb in Pa.
I have one houseplant begonia. As with most of my houseplants it was given to me and a name did not come with it. A prolific plant, it blooms almost continuously. This is a picture from last summer. Begonia from work ( photo / image / picture from Jerry Sullivan's Garden ) Jerry
I've had them in the past and really liked them.... especially the Angel Wings. Your photos have inspired me to put them on my wish list!
I have the same one Jerry does A friend gave me a cutting a year or so ago and since then I have given out several cuttings too I'd like to try other ones, especially the "Strawberry Begonia" but just haven't found one yet. Way back when, when I was a newlywed my hubby's grandma gave me the cutest little thing called a "Trout Leaf Begonia" that sat on the coffee table. Been so long I can't remember what happened to it but I'd sure like to find another one :-D
Thankyou, Jerry I love the leaves on that begonia, they sure are good value if they are given some care.
Hi, Stratsmon, thanks for that name, I have been able to give a name to one of mine, trout leaf begonia. ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden )
Bernie's Beognias I have a few Begonias as well. They have always been a staple in shady spots in all my gardens so far and this one is no different. The Dragon Wing Begonias are magnificent. There are several hanging baskets of these out in my shadehouse garden and they pretty good all year round. Dragon Wing Begonia ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) I have both pink and red Dragon Wings. They are still babies as yet and haven't quite reached their full height, but they have lovely flowers. Cane Begonia ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) Cane Begonia ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) I have a small collection of Rex Begonias. Rex Begonias and others ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) I'm afraid I don't know the varietal names of many of these. Rex Begonias ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) One Begonia I do know the name of, and it's one of my favourites, is this beauty. Begonia 'Tiger Paws' ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) Begonia 'Tiger Paws'. It has the most gorgeous little flowers as well as the fantastic foliage. Begonia 'Tiger Paws' ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden ) I have quite a few pots of Begonia semperflorens or Wax Begonia as well. They provide year-round colour here. I'm rather partial to the white ones. Not sure what this Begonia is either I'm afraid. Angel Wing Begonia ( photo / image / picture from Bernieh's Garden )
I want a Tiger Paw one! They are all lovely, but that one tops them all... especially with that foliage.
Bernieh, you have a lovely collection there, the unknown one is called exotica, I have tried too many times to grow it,by cutting and in water but no luck. They do make lovely hanging baskets dont they? Contrasting coloured leaves ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden ) Two plants in one basket ( photo / image / picture from chocolate's Garden )
Oohh, I do like the two Begonias in one basket. They make a great pair. The Begonia all on its own is terrific too. Love the silver foliage.
