Made room in the computer room for this little greenhouse stand... and I mean it barely fit! I need to rig up by grow light, but I started some seeds today. Here's what's there so far: Balloon Flower; Marigolds (Janie Flame) and (Crackerjack Orange); White Althea, 4 O'clocks, Hardy Hibiscus, Lady Baltimore Hibiscus, Cardoon, Red Hot Poker and Lotus. And as you can see, I still have room for more... and I have more seeds too! seed starting setup 2012 ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Just installed a miniblind in the bathroom and half of the slats had to be removed. So guess who has TONS of plant markers?
Oooh very nice, I want something like that! I cant wait to start doing seeds, I have a TON of em that need to be started, although Im sure some of them arent viable anymore (old, maybe got damp, etc). I really really really want to set up a shelf/light system
Bip... I got this one last year from... and I hesitate to say this... from Home Depot... or was it Lowes? But I did see some of them at Big Lots today. They aren't super sturdy. But as long as you keep the load light... they are okay. They even come with a zippered clear plastic cover.
Well.. the shelf is now filled up. Well... maybe there's room for another tray! :-D Started some Lemon Queen, Mexican and Chianti Sunflowers; Dill; Black-eye Susans; Gazanias; and Hyacinth Bean Vines. Now... let the sprouting begin... please.
I only have a four shelf set-up in the guest bedroom with tomato, pepper, and herb plants started yesterday. I think I really, really need one of those mini-greenhouses! Cheryl, dill can be direct sown. In the fall, scratch up an area, toss some dill seed down, and it will come up when the conditions are right. I have a bunch of dill coming up all over the vegetable garden right now, and some of it is about 6" tall. If you will remind me, I'll send you some of our dill seed in late spring when it sets seed and the seed ripens--late June or early July.
Jane... and where do you think I got the Dill seeds from in the first place? :-D I meant to sow them in the fall, but I hadn't decided on where to make new beds. I was going to sow them directly into the soil this spring, but figured... what the heck... might as well give it a try now.
Great job! But... will the seedlings get all the light they need? I am reluctant to sow any seeds inside until spring and warmth are here. Just wondering. I have a few seedlings from the fall and not doing great I started my wintersowing... but outside in the garden (in containers).
Cheryl, I'm an idiot! I must make a list of who I send what seeds to so I won't give silly advice twice. Don't worry about preparing beds for the dill--it goes "whither it wants" and you just yank it out if it's in the wrong spot.
Calin... I have a grow light already to set up. Just waiting until I see some signs of growth. Jane... no problem on the advice twice or thrice! :-D But I will need some beds. Otherwise it's just a big grassy area in my part of the yard. I need to start preparing the beds, but there's still time. Maybe on the next nice day when I'm at home.
They look good Cheryl, :-D I've planted some coleus...that's about all so far, but I planted 8 small flats...used a pencil tip to do it...I don't like to crowd them...damp off and other things happen when they are too close. I know eight small flats seems a lot, but I give a lot of them away.
Guess what? The Marigold "CrackerJack" sprouted today! woohooo! And yes Jerry, I wrote it down in my notebook. :-D
And this morning... I see a little green thing poking out of one of the Lotus seed pods. Edited the following day to add: And the second one has "sprung" too.
