I have many fern,,a lot of species cultivating from spores two and half years ago inside the plastic and glass pot I put sterilise soil and vermiculite I pouring boiling water over it [This kills the spores of fungi ],after I put fern spores, and I covered with plastic or glass. and kept at around 20 degrees C in indirect light first species[ Dryopteris erythrophylla]common name Autumn Fern plastic tupper after 4 weeks after months after one year today are more big :-D
Wow, you did a good job and they look great. I love ferns and watching them grow. I tried this about a year ago except I used Ceratopteris richardii and started the spores in a petri dish filled with agar. They got to be a little smaller than your third picture. They were doing great until I accidentally knocked them over and buried them in their own soil. I tried to save them, but it was too late. Ever since, I have wanted to try it again, this time without knocking them over.
thanks stratsmom and chery :-D yes it needs much patience :-D thanks FlowerFreak22 :-D I wish at next time will be successful, FlowerFreak22 I know agar-agar but I dont no petri dish, what is this??
This is a petri dish filled with agar also called an agar plate. ( photo / image / picture from FlowerFreak22's Garden ) It is often used to culture bacteria. I germinated the fern spores on one. When they developed small roots that protruded into the agar, I cut the agar around the roots and transplanted them into soil where the roots grew threw the agar and into the soil.
Fantastic job!!! :-D Just the shear volume you have was all worth the wait I'm sure, not to mention how healthy they all look.
thanks everybody :-D FlowerFreak22 apart from petri dish ,can I put glass pot?? Calin a good beginning :-D
