Can someone please give me a few Ideas on what plants I should purchase to adorn this Cemetery Sign? We must Keep in mind low low maintenance and it would be nice to have a bloom or two for summer. (Zone 6) When I install a sign like this I'm often asked to landscape them and feel guilty not obliging. I'm leaving my signs(NAKED!) More Pics in (My Garden)

    Thanks

    Al

Wow,you really know how to catch attention with a post heading!
How about prostrate rosemary in the stone planter? It is evergreen, gets tiny blue flowers when it blooms, is fragrant, and is care free. It doesn't get much more than 2' tall and drapes gracefully. It also has the added advantage of being a plant dedicated to the Virgin Mary (supposedly rosemary had white flowers until her cape covered a bush, and from then on the flowers were blue, her color).

Yes, it will survive in zone 6, especially if there is a southern exposure. Intermingling other plants is quite easy--just choose ones that are taller than the rosemary, since it will basically form a ground cover that drapes over the stones. You might put in some Knock-out roses--the first ones to be released, not the later ones that have more health problems. Roses and rosemary go very well together.
Rosemary cuttings root very easily. You might not have to prune a prostrate rosemary for years if you tell the congregation about the "legend of rosemary"!

I'm greatfull you took the time out to give such an aproprit solution with biblical flair. This approach to a solution Is a rear gift not granted to many indevsuals. You inspired me to work on setting aside an area of land to develop a Biblical Garden along our creek side park. The locals will think it cool! If you know or hear of such "Legendary" plants Please pass them on you know my Zone.

Excellent idea MG. Somewhere there is a list of flowers with biblical connections. I have read it but can`t remember where I saw it.

I have a book with "legends of flowers and plants" and I'll have a look at it and post whatever is appropriate.
Al, it's a pleasure to help out with a garden--wherever it is!

I had been commissioned to do an Icon Shrine in memory of a young girl who lost her life during the Virgina Tech shooting. I remember someone mentioning a garden on the church grounds that had plants with Biblical history. One stands out (The Judas Tree) I think I'll pass on that one. Attached Icon pic.
