Last year my husband stuck part of a strawberry in one of my pots on our porch. It actually came up. We weren't sure at first if it was the strawberry or not. It looks just like one and has several runners, but the leaves are HUGE! People are starting to tell us they can't be strawberries, never seen leaves so large. I need an expert opinion. I tried to load a picture, but it says my file is too large and I'm somewhat computer illiterate. Help! moderator's note: moved topic to more appropriate forum
Georgiana, I would be surprised if you had a strawberry grow from seed. I am not saying it couldn't happen, but is there a possibility someone is playing a trick in you? Without a picture we can't tell you if it really is a strawberry plant or not.
The variety of strawberries we have do have very big leaves. But I am not sure as to what they are. Sorry.
You may have one of the giant strawberry plants i.e. 'Senga Gigana.' Any chance that you could post a photograph of the plant that has grown for you?
Pic of giant strawberry plant Thanks to Carolyn I am now able to post a pic of my plant. I know what strawberry leaves look like, but have never seen any so large. What do y'all think? strawberry plant ( photo / image / picture from Georgiana's Garden )
It certainly looks like one of the giant types of strawberry you have there. I suppose the proof will be when the fruit appears so, fingers crossed, it will be flowering soon for you.
Georgiana, that certainly looks like a strawberry to me, too. And I agree the leaf IS huge. Wait and see if the plant flowers and IF it tastes good.
