I was invited to my oldest aunt's house for Easter (she's almost 95 years old and had 5 generations there). I was told not to bring anything, just come and eat and visit. I couldn't show up empty-handed, so I made a bouquet from the garden since I know she loves flowers. But she's finally starting to slow down and not able to play in her flower beds as much as she would like. My aunt was tickled to get them... especially when I pointed out that the Daylilies, Iris and Kalanchoes were the one's my mom (her sister) planted years ago.
I'm really not a fan of cutting flowers to bring inside. And, honestly, I felt bad about cutting some of them. But, it was worth it to see that smile on my silly old aunt's face. And oh the treats I got in return! Pecan pie. Lemon pie. Banana pudding. German chocolate cake. And of course I couldn't leave without a hunk of her bunny rabbit cake!
Very pretty, Cheryl. I don't like to cut my flowers, either. They stay so much longer outside than inside, but I am sure your Auntie appreciated them greatly.
Hi Cheryl, a very beautiful vase of flowers and with the basket and easter bunny the picture is an easter card type,..your aunt would be over the moon knowing her sister planted the original flowers. You sure received a lot of nice pies for your visit,..but,..who ate the easter egg that should be in that basked,..i see the wee eggs there,..but who ate the big one?, .
Just beautiful! I know it was so appreciated by your Aunt & probably brought back pleasant memories of her years digging in the garden.
Cheryl, you have redefined "passalong" plants. Your mom planted, you have tended, and now all that loveliness has been passed on to your aunt! Well done.
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Philip... there was no "big" egg. with just me here at the house right now, and since I wasn't doing any cooking, didn't have it in me to boil and dye one or two eggs. There was a big chocolate bunny... but that didn't last even through Saturday.
Lol Cheryl,..i also ate a big chocolate bunny,..and the small eggs,..in one sitting, ,..mind you only seeing i had nobody to share with,..i still scratch my head when i see the package with chocolate bunny and small eggs,..it used to be chicken and small eggs,..no wonder when a child was asked,..where do mice come from,..she replied,..from cheese, .
