In 2002, I was spending some time with my oldest brother and his wife in Leesburg Fla. I had, had quadruple bypass the fall before and then our mother had passed away on 17 March. They came up for the funeral and then went back down there for 3 weeks, before coming home for the summer. I went down for a little vacation and to help them close up their place down there. While there, we went over to the Atlantic coast to watch the shuttle Discovery take off. We were about a mile to a mile and a half from it. Through binoculars you could just barely see it on the launch pad. But when it blasted off, the vibration and noise was so great that it was almost unbeleivable. It's almost beyond beleif that man could create something with that much power. What have you witnessed with that much awesomness?
The birth of my first Grandson. I was in the birthing room during labor and deliver. At the time of birth I had to get out of the way for the Dr and nurses so I stood on the couch in the corner, bouncing up and down and crying.
We've experienced some awesome things--the Aurora Borealis; the coral reefs off Bonaire with the variety of fish; Texas sunrises and sunsets; but we hope we haven't experienced the most awesome thing yet in our lives.
I don't know if this the most awesome but surely one the neatest things I've experienced is the kindness, generosity and camaraderie from Garden Stewers. I mean that. What a neat bunch of people
Seeing a Red Kite hunting just in front of us. What a magnificent bird of prey. I just wish I'd had my camera handy at the time.
My very first overseas trip by air to Japan for job training. Having not travelled overseas or flown before until the age of 29, I was really anxious whether there is really a place there at the end of the flight even though I had met many people form that country, read about it and so on and so on. But I guess I had taken for granted that it was there until I am really on my way there!!! Once landed the feeling was awesome, yes it is real ... Japan, nice, cool, beautiful and the ladies were really polite! It was spring and the place was really clean ..... ahhh!!! Such a nice place and it is real!!! I still get this very nice feeling as I was writing this post even though the experience was 27 years ago, yes it's AWESOME!!
Our vacation to Colorado as a whole. Great Sand Dunes (ever gone zipping down a sand dune?), Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Mesa Verde, even the kids loved ALL of it and never complained about the long drive because they had so much fun. The sound of your feet against the sand as you slide down sounds like a zipper. I ruined my old camera that day, but it was worth it. The long climb clear to the top! Second row seats, dead center of the stage, at the Royal Albert Hall in London for an Eric Clapton concert.
What wonderful journey's you all have seen/done. It's hard to put only 1 event down. I've never seen the shuttle take off, but I did get the chance to visit The Kennedy Space Center in FL and that in itself was very awesome. I also got to be at the birth of my granddaughter and that was very awesome. I've seen the Grand Canyon in NV and Waimea Canyon in HI, which I thought was very awesome. I've seen great concerts and great stage plays that I would deam as very awesome. So I would say, I've been very lucky!
