Just wondering if there are some varieties of climbing roses that would love your climate and space. I know one of mine blooms most of the summer. My grandmothers little house in Texas was draped in white fragrant roses. Might be too prickly.
i love clematis, i have 3 different ones.....when they are done blooming, i love the seed heads, they make nice points of interest with their 'hairiness'..(i don't know how else to describe it).
I really would like to try some Clematis there... maybe 2 that would bloom at different times. BUT... due to lack of funds, I think I'm going to try something else this year. I picked up some seeds today for two of the plants on my list. Sweet Pea (Lythyrus) Streamers and Black-Eye Susan - Thunbergia vine. I think I'll put the Sweet Pea in the ground so it'll climb the pole and will see how the Black-Eye Susan does in that hanging basket. And if they don't really work out, no big deal since they're annuals... and it didn't cost but a couple of bucks.
Cherylad, never grow a plant that has the death response. Now if I could only follow my own suggestions
i also have sweet pea ( perennial)...they also reseed all over the place...that being said....they are, as all flowers, beautiful!
These are supposedly annuals. And if I make sure to harvest the seeds, then I think I'll be okay. I'm just hoping they'll grow like I imagine.
Hi Cherylad--I don't know if you are still looking for a vine. Your last response was in February. But, if you are, I have a suggestion: Clematis Texensis 'Princess Diana'. It has 2-tone pink lily shaped blossoms, and in my New England garden, it blooms all summer. I love it. I can get you a photo when mine comes into bloom if you are interested. (New England gardens are at least 6 or more weeks behind Tx, I think.)
Hi Cayuga! I planted some Sweet Peas there and they are well on their way climbing up the pole. I've very anxious to see how they will look. Clematis is still way up high on my wish list. I've made note of the Clematis Texensis 'Princess Diana'. Thanks for the suggestion.
