I have some bananas that are over ripe and I have banana bread in the freezer. I would like to mash them and freeze them for later use. Do you freeze bananas? Someone told me you can't freeze bananas but I'm not sure why if I'm just going to use them mashed up anyway. dooley
Heck yeah! I freeze mine, peel and all! When they come out of the freezer they look really disgusting but it doesn't affect the flavor at all :-D
Me too, no prob. The skin turns yukky black but they are much easier to mush up when thawed. You will only want to cook with em. I use them for banana bread after frozen. Barb in Pa.
The freezer is a great place for the bananas that are too ripe to eat. When they get to 5, a banana bread gets made. Freeze away!! jerry
Netty, I didn't know we could freeze them without the skin. That's great news. I can cut them into small pieces that way. Barb in Pa.
I have never tried freezing bananas, that is great to know...at our house when you open a banana the dogs come running for a taste of it...they both love them. Every dog we ever had always got a couple pieces of banana before bed ...now they expect it and are disappointed if we run out.
I have a friend who freezes them for banana bread. It works just fine. You can't freeze them and have them be good for anything else though.
I just hate to throw them out if you have too many and I don't like to eat them overripe...banana bread will work out great. I don't always have the time when the bananas are ready.
I had plantain and it was getting too ripe I just froze it whole in the skin. I don't know what to do with it now but I will try something. I never stop trying to save food. Barb in Pa.
Great question Dooley. I didn't know you could freeze them either. I've always been told not to. But I love to make banana bread and am not always able when they are ready, so they always get thrown out. Now they won't. :-D
I mash mine up and put in a 2 cup container which is same amount my recipe calls for, freeze it and then thaw when I want to make bread. They are already to go!
