Last night it rained so hard that at first I thought it was hail! I jumped out of bed & ran to the door & peeked out; I was so nervous about all the new little plants out there. Wasn't hail but it really rained HARD. Went out this morning expecting to see lots of broken plants, but thankfully none were. They sure look beaten up, though. Most of the blooms knocked off the verbenas & the Zepherine Drouin rose. The other plants just look like they survived WWIII! I spent a good part of the night with a shaking, terrified chihuahua huddled into my armpit! Skippy's deathly afraid of thunder & lightning; poor baby.
awww we had a hard rain here too 2 days ago ,and the gutters overflowed right onto one of my seedling trays >_< I tried my best to replace the soil, we'll see how they do Poor puppy, afraid of the storm! I like storms (but not when they wash out my plants >:O)
All i can say is AWWWWWW to both of you for your plants and animals. No rain here and not expecting any for a few more days in this high 80's -90 degree heat. I have a cat who hides at the first clash of thunder and lightening. I was like you LUV when I first brought my seedlings here to harden off..it was still a lil chilly then it turned cold over night and i panicked all night then hurried to the office the next morn to make sure that they survived the night...then it stayed cold for a few more nights and nervous i was for those days. Now their own their way....Prayerfully they will make it!!
Plants have learned to survive downpours and high winds, so yours will recover LDH. I've had plants come back after being chopped up by hail. They are ugly for a while, but what a will to live! My sympathies to Skippy, and aren't you glad Skippy is a chihuahua. We had a 75 lb. Collie/St. Bernard mix that hated storms. Try holding that on your lap! I did, and eventually the feeling in my legs returned . . . .
Nature is resilient, your plants will demonstrate that as they recover. As for Skippy, perhaps some loud music during thunderstorms. Lots of snuggles and hugs are an alternative. Jerry
Oh my, marlingardener! I actually CAN visualize trying to hold a Collie/St. Bernard mix in my lap.... ouch! LOL!
I thought same thing with my plants.. And Ginger our last Viszla. Since we had Tornado last May near by. Jumps in bed. Hope Sandy our Lab-never gets afraid of storms. Like a small pony.And Jerry trains puppies loud music. So will not be afraid of gun shots. Helps a lot.
Hey koszta kid, I am so jealous! I have always wanted a Viszla; they are the most beautiful dogs. My son's fiance is Hungarian & the first Viszla I ever saw belonged to her brother. My father raised champion coon hounds & I know he would have loved the Viszlas, as well.
