I strongly suggest leaving it alone and letting nature take it's course.
Was it the moth, the caterpillar or cocoon that over wintered?
If it over wintered in it's cocoon, it will break free when the time is right and if that doesn't happen eventually that could mean that it died in the cocoon.

    Many thanks for that .
I found it as a caterpiller and after reading up extensively about it and following all the instructions i kept it in a suitable container and it pupated in the leaves and soil that it was in,in my garage in the cool.
I bought it in in the middle of may as per instructions and last evening it pushed its way out of the leaves and soil that it had cocooned itself in.I thought that it would emerge today as a moth, but it just lays there and isnt doing anything now,and i was wondering if it still might emerge or it has died ( i hope not !!)
Any expert advice from anyone out there would be much appreciated
    Many thanks
    :-D :'( :'(
