Hi Everyone, This is my first post here. While berry picking this morning I came upon this unusual looking butterfly/moth. I live in northeastern Illinois. The wingspan is about 6 inches. Any idea what it might be? Cheers, Jim K ( photo / image / picture from Jim K's Garden )
Welcome to the Stew, Jim, from the northwest coast of Norway. Lovely moth you've got there. I did a check on whatsthatbug and I think you've found a silk moth. If you check the page I've linked to you'll find it right at the bottom unless somebody just posted. Then you'll probably find it on page 2.
What a beautiful moth Jim. Welcome to GardenStew from Scotland and I hope you'll make your stay with us a long one. :-D
Welcome to the Stew, Jim! For quick identification, moths do not have little "bulbs" on the end of their antennae, and butterflies do. There are plants you can put into your garden to attract butterflies--both nectar plants and host plants. Butterflies are great additions to any garden, and good little pollinators, too!
