Siberian iris do well here, so we've got a few of them around the garden. These are blooming now: Iris sibirica ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Iris sibirica ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Iris sibirica ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Iris sibirica ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) I'm planning to buy a couple more, since there are some new ones with very nice colours on the market. Our tree peony: Paeonia suffruticosa - Tree peony ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) We didn't know what colour it might be since the labels only said "Paeonia suffruticosa". I like the way it turned out. This is our Itoh-hybrid, a cross between Paeonia suffruticosa - tree peony and Paeonia lactiflora - common garden peony. It's both hardy and showy, and I like that in a garden plant: Itoh-peony "Yellow Crown" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) The white bleeding heart is looking good. We nearly lost it in the hard freeze the winter before last: Lamprocapnos spectabilis alba ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Most of our hostas are doing very well this year, probably due to the mild winter and the wet spring: Hosta "Mountain Snow" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Hosta "Chinese Sunrise" ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) This geranium was supposed to be a double pink one. It obviously isn't but I like it so it gets to stay: Geranium ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) The Ramonda is a small rock border plant that likes acid soil so I planted it on top of a moss brick in the "Walls of Jericho" border. It seems to like it there: Ramonda ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) If our lovely summer weather holds (it's been dry and mostly sunny for four days!) I might even get some plants divided and moved. Oh, joy!
What gorgeous peonies you have!!!! Are they as fragrant as the bush type? Beautiful colors! Your hostas look healthy too
Wow... they are all gorgeous. I think I may have to start doing some reading to see if Peonies will live here. Beautiful photos!
Thank you all. stratsmom, they're not quite as fragrant as the common garden peony. What I like about them is the bloom size. They're huge! The yellow-orange one will hopefully grow into a large bush/small tree, and I'm sooo looking forward to that. cherylad, I hope you find some that will like it where you live.
.....Where to begin?! I have been admiring your Siberian Irises especially, as mine are dry and brown now--retreated to the cool and dark depths of their earthy hibernation. Those that you are showing look stunning and it is nice to see the variety. As for the tree paeonys--well, I shall be taking names and beginning an investigation here. These are quite lovely specimens and perhaps some that I can grow with success. I have grown other sorts but no matter where I planted them in the garden they always developed illness and prematurely died-off. I was planning to locate and purchase a couple this spring, but because of the weather and the increased workload and full schema, that plan fell by the wayside. --Gone, but not forgotten. I like thes ones that you have shown here. Hosta's: Well I have only one. That's enough for me, and that one needs to be split. I do quite l;ike looking at other people's hosta's though. These two from your massive collection are very attractive. The green and white leaves of the 'Mountain Snow', looks very attractive, and the "lemony" effect of the yellow and green leaves of the Chinese Sunrise especially gives me a good feeling and I fantasize that the leaves ought to have a fragrance. That Geraniumm looks like a type that I have in my flower garden. I separated the roots and made new clumps this year, which i scattered over the garden. Thay are all doing well. It has a pretty colour and the bees here really frequent its blooms. All-in-all....a great posting, Droopy. Chapeau!
Great Siberian Iris, I too will have to look for some new ones in the fall. I have had the same color for years. Time for a new look. Jerry
gorgeous iris collection . . been pining over the iris growing by the lake at work, bright yellow flower looks awesome :-D
Droopy--beautiful photos. I love your irises, and of course, the peonies. I have been eyeing the new ITOH intersectional hybrids for several years now, just haven't pushed the button yet. Yours are inspiring.
Thank you all for liking our blooms. Sjoerd, good luck with your hunt for peonies. You'd love the tree peonies, there are so many different ones. lukeypukey, if they're the yellow iris I think they are, don't let them loose in your garden! They are very pretty but they grow fast and are very tough to dig up again. CM, I recommend you try one to start with. They're the type of plant that will get you hooked.
oh Droopy! what a lovely collection! so beautiful. I am looking forward to moving my irises in September and seeing them in a sunny new location!
