It is normal here that when one has guests, tea or coffee and a sweet something is offered. In this case I am offering you fresh strawberries. The freshly picked fruit above is oké for eating with your fingers...but if you want decadent, you can get decadent: Right then--moving along whilst you devour the goodies above...I don't recall if I have ever shown you an aerial view of my garden plots, but below here is a bird's eye view. My "old" flower and veg garden is the one in the upper right hand corner. You can see the red roof of my old shed and there is a wirwar of paths squiggling through the flower garden. To the right of those you can see the roof of my small greenhouse and surrounding it is the ground used for veg. Paths and sloten (small canals) can also be seen. If you go left, up the path--look below the main sidewalk and you will see something that looks like a very short bit or railroad track. That is the very beginning of the long "new" garden. The railroad-looking thing is actually bean poles that are joined at the top by long connecting poles. I have finally completed filling the corn patch with a succession of plants planted. They are much later than usual and not very tall. They have a long way to go. Over in the old gardens, I have set up some solitary bee "hotels". I will see how they do there this year, and then see where I will end up placing them next year in a more permanent presentation. These rainy days are good for several things--reading, studying, planning, writing on here and catching up with correspondence....oh yes, and goofing off.
May I have some of the decadent dessert please sir?? Makes me mad at myself that I didn't plant strawberries this year. But I'm in the process of gathering all the stuff I need for a raised bed for some next year. Scrumptious looking! Glad you're getting rain (that is if you needed it)... but mostly glad since it chased you indoors so you could show more photos.
yummy strawberries and whipped creeam sjoerd! we are enjoying ours here too! love the arial photo! we have a similar one of our gardens...they make our rows look really straight, when they really aren't! your corn looks good, ours is still small. i tried direct seeding this year, and swear, with our strange weather patterns, i'll never do it again! starts are the only sure way to go. your bean poles look good, too, as well as the plants. ours are just starting to pop out of the ground. gotta love duct tape, eh?! i like the beehive idea. might like to do something like that here. will be curious to hear your report of how they work. do you have a shortage of bees over there, like we supposedly do here?
Thanks for sharing your aerial view and description of yours gardens. Even thought your posts are descriptive and detailed, a picture is worth a thousand words. Your strawberry shortcake looks delicious. Hopefully the rest of your crops are just as fruitful as your strawberries.
I'm not talking to you! Those strawberries look sooo delicious and you just ate them, so unfair. Especially since ours will be eaten by the neighbour since we won't be here when they ripen. On the other hand, we'll probably find some nice strawberries on our trip. I like that aerial view of the lotties.
Yes you most certainly may, CHERYL--I have those strawbs coming out of my ears this year. The rain here may stop for a while now, and it may become warmer as well. Hahaha...Thanks for appreciating the fotos--one must do SOMETHING on a rainy day. Hi BUNKIE--Glad you like the looks of those strawbs and whipped cream.I thank you for your nice comments about the corn. It is still so small at the moment. I hope that we get some warmth soon, or else it may stay stunted, although I am using a new sort of corn that is billed to perform well in cool and moist climates. It remains to be seen. Glad that you liked the strawbs, LUKEY-- What kind are you growing this year? You are welcome, GAIL--The pic is from a few years ago and some paths have been altered and some added since then. That strawberry short cake WAS delicious. I have eaten it several times now. Hahaha...Not talking to me....why whatever for? chuckle. A guy has to eat a fresh strawberry or two now and then. Now, there is no reason why you can't eat any of your own strawbs. Why not ask your neighbour to clean and freeze them in for you? Easy-peasy. You can also get some on your trip and REALLY gorge yourself. Glad you liked the aerial view. It is a different perspective, isn't it?
Thanks Cris. I picked another couple of trugs full this afternoon and of course had to eat more of those fresh things. I shall be buying some new plants this fall and keeping a bed of runner plants as well. I am looking forward to driving down to the place where I buy them. I find it so interesting there.
I enjoyed the aerial view Sjoerd. Didn't know you owned a helicopter Is wirwar a Dutch word? It's got a descriptive sound.
Frank, I never thought about the meaning of that word since we've got the same word in Norwegian, only with single -v's.
Hi DROOPY--Sorry I am late to answer. The bee hotel is for solitary bees to nest in. I am hoping that they will help me with pollination. Hello FRANK--I apologize for the tardy answer. i have been ultra busy here the past few days. Wirwar---I am embarassed to say that I thought that it was an english word when I typed it. It is a word that is used so frequently here. It means a sort of " confusing tangle". Interesting the the norwegians have this word as well. There are many words that we share actually. I ought to look up the origin of this word. Ehmmmm...you must excuse me now, my helicopter pilot is motioning me that it is time to go.
Thanks for the strawberries, they are yummie!!! With your aerial view photo, now I know where to go to help myself to those yummie strawberries and the coming "jagung"
Hahaha...right you are! You are welcome at any time, mate. How do you eat your jagung typically? I use it in many diffferent ways, but my favourite is fresh right off the cob.
