i believe they do last quite a while . . was gonna do my usual and condemn another orchid to a slow and painful death under my care, in orchid terms im a serial killer . . . but i fancied a change . . . elishasmama - - im really not sure of the difference, im a relative newcomer also. . . im sure a stew member will have the answer
I was also going to ask the difference. My sis-in-law just got one like Lukey's... I told her it was a Peace Lily/Nasturium. Lovey color of that bloom! Edited to say: I meant to say Anthurium... not Naturium
Lovely Flamingo blooms. That plant of yours looks very healthy and happy. The Flamingo plant's latin name is Anthurium. The Peace Lily's latin name is Spathiphyllum. They're both tropicals but belong to differnt families.
That is a lovely Anthurium. I had one very similar a few years back but unfortunately was unable to keep it. Don't know what I was doing wrong, there is obviously a knack to getting them to last. If anyone knows I would be interested to know any tips.
Hi, I just love the anthurium, they look so lush and tropical and last for up to 6 weeks in a vase. I have just started a collection, which includes,a white, pale pink, bright orange and even one with a bright pink stripe on a light pink background,a lavender, and of course the deep red. I hope they will look like yours Lukepukey, that is a very healthy specimen. Cant wait for mine to flower. The leaves are quite spectacular too. Believe me you will be hooked now, they are such good value.
Just for clarification that probably no one cares about - Anthurium and Spathiphyllum are both member of the Aroid family along with Aglaonemas, Philodendrons, Pothos, Dieffenbachia and many others. They all produce flowers with structures similar to the Peace Lily and Anthurium - a hooded spathe over a phallic spadix. In general, plants are related by similarities in their reproductive mechanisms - flowers in most cases, but spores in the case of ferns or cones in the case of evergreens. Leaf and stem shape and size have noting to do with how plants are related. There are lots of plants with large floppy leaves that are all commonly called "elephant ears." However, as much as they look similar, they are not related to one another because their reproductive organs are very different. So much for sex in the plant world! zzzzzz... ~Will
Common names are a tricky thing sometimes. Anthurium andreanum (Flamingo Lily) Spathiphyllum 'Domino' (Peace Lily) They are both in the same Family-Araceae but different Genera. And I believe Aroid is also a common name for the Araceae Family? http://www.aroid.org/aroid/
